The Fantasy Cartogrpaher's Field Book is an example of the publications Judges Guild came up with to add to the early gaming genre as a whole. From the beginning, Judges Guild aimed to fill in the niches that TSR inevitably left open.
The book itself is a large collection of graphpaper sheets. Each page has mapping symbols along the edge to help a game master design his own campaign setting. In theory, an entire game world could be created solely on the pages of this book.
While there isn't anything here to break your dull campaign wide open, The Fantasy Cartographer's Field Book would be a useful tool for any game master who needs to get his thoughs organized. Sometimes, all that is needed to make a campaign take off is a little bit of preparation, and a vehicle to make your imagination take off. This publication provides plenty of potential.
As presented here, in shrinkwrap, it is also an artifact of the early days of gaming. That alone makes The Fantasy Cartographer's Field Book worthy collecting.
Whether you are an active game master for any RPG setting...or a crusty collector with cash in his hands and a jones for the old days...The Fantasy Cartographer's Field Book deserves a place on your shelf.
I rate The Fantasy Cartographer's Field Book at a three because it is a straightforward game product that accomplishes its purpose.
